What are the advantages of a fatbike?
The main advantages of a fatbike are: good grip on unpaved surfaces, comfortable riding over bumpy roads, and versatility — fatbikes are suitable for offroad use but also great for everyday traffic.
Am I allowed to ride a fatbike on public roads?
In the Netherlands, the following rules apply to fatbikes on public roads: the bike may travel at a maximum speed of 25 km/h and the motor may have a maximum power of 250 watts. A fatbike with a throttle is not allowed on public roads.
Which type of fatbike should I choose?
There are different types of fatbikes available. For example, you have electric fatbikes, which are equipped with a motor that provides pedal assistance. In addition, there are standard fatbikes without a motor, which rely entirely on muscle power. For more sporty purposes, there are race fatbikes, specially designed for offroad competitions. Finally, there are also tour fatbikes, which are ideal for long distances and comfortable rides over various types of terrain.
How do you maintain a fatbike?
Maintenance of a fatbike generally does not differ much from that of a regular bike. However, there are a few important points to keep in mind. You should regularly check and adjust the tire pressure for optimal grip and comfort. It is also important to keep the chain well lubricated to prevent wear. The brakes should be regularly inspected to ensure they function properly. And if you have an electric fatbike, it is important to charge the battery on time so you don’t run out of support.
