Consult with your employer
Consult with your employer about whether and for what purchase value you are allowed to buy a bike under the bike plan. Your employer can manage the administration themselves or choose to delegate it to an intermediary such as Nationaal Fietsplan (NFP).
Choose your new bike
Order your new bike at GoFatbike.nl. If the bike you want to purchase has a higher purchase value than the amount allowed by your employer's bike plan, you will need to pay the difference yourself.
Choose your payment method
There are three payment options:
• You pay yourself and claim the purchase amount from your employer
• Your employer pays (we send the invoice to your employer)
• The payment is made through an intermediary such as the National Bicycle Plan (NFP)
How does the tax benefit work?
Bicycles with Benefits through the Bicycle Plan
Your employer offers the bike plan. But how do you get tax benefits? You choose a new bike yourself, but your employer pays for it. In fact, you owe your employer, which you can repay through a temporary reduction of your gross salary. Because your gross salary is temporarily reduced, you also pay less income tax. And that's where the benefit lies!
A bike is one of the most popular secondary employment benefits. With a bike plan, you can purchase a new (electric) bike with tax advantages. And that benefit averages around 40%. The great thing is that this tax benefit also applies to insurance and/or maintenance.
Advantages of the bike plan
Calculation example
Imagine you buy a bike for €1,000. That means you also pay €1,000 x 40% = €400 less in taxes at the end of the year. So, you keep that money! Although you received €1,000 less in salary, you exchanged it for a bike of the same value.
This way, you saved €400 in taxes that you would have had to pay if you had received €1,000 more in salary. Since you get to keep that €400 now, the bike actually cost you not €1,000, but €1,000 - €400 = €600. The 40% tax on your salary has turned into a 40% benefit on your bike.
