Phatfour fatbike: handmade in the Netherlands, two models

Phatfour is a Dutch fatbike brand that builds its bikes by hand. This is rare in this price segment, where most brands produce in China. FLX or FLX+: what is the difference?

The biggest technical difference is in the motor. The FLX runs on a BAFANG G062, a reliable rear wheel motor without gears. The FLX+ has a BAFANG G06A2 with two built-in gears. This means the FLX+ performs better when starting from a standstill and accelerates a bit smoother on a hill. In practice, you notice this in daily city use, especially if you often stop at traffic lights or make turns. The price also differs: the FLX starts at €2,349, the FLX+ at €3,249. Unsure based on price alone? The FLX is a full-fledged fatbike. Want that slightly smoother acceleration? Then the FLX+ is the better choice.

What makes a Phatfour different?

Most e-fatbikes in this price segment are mass-produced. Phatfour is different: manual assembly in the Netherlands, direct quality control, and a design focused on street use. The tires are wide, but the frame has cleaner lines than many Chinese brands. At 35 kg, the bike is also lighter than many competitors. You can also insure a Phatfour through Phatfour Connected, the brand’s own insurance program. This is something most other brands in this segment do not offer.
